Michigan Wedding and Portrait Photography : 9 Month Baby Portraits

Over the last year I’ve had to keep this little pink tutu hidden from my daughter. She saw it when I brought it home – it’s pinkness, although faded through a shopping bag, was enough to strike her interest. Whats that? Is that for me? I love pink! Is that for me…? Sadly, it wasn’t and I’ve had to hear about it ever since.

She did get to have her turn with it in a mini-photo session but after that it was on strict lockdown. Absence DEFINITELY makes the heart grow fonder…

I try to rush past her as I leave for shoots.  A tuft of pink escaping the top of my portrait ‘grab-bag’ is all thats needed to start a 4-alarm breakdown. Tears and pouting lips have won many a battle in this house.

As I’ve been working on these pictures my little Ellise was by my side quite often. She was drawn to Emily and her big blue eyes… she would tell me how beautiful the baby on my computer was and how she wanted to give her hugs. Ellise is at that age where there are only 3 things that matter to her – princess’, pink and babies.

When she saw the pictures of Emily in the tutu she got really quiet. (Which for Ellise is definitely a red flag that something is up!) I asked her what was wrong and her response was priceless.

“Well” (and picture her with her arms crossed looking very introspective) “its definitely NOT FAIR that I can’t have that skirt – you know its my favorite color – BUT I would let baby Emily have it because it looks like she loves it and I wouldn’t want to hurt her heart”

Long story short, Ellise is now the proud owner of a very pink tutu…
